A little about us

As you probably read on the front page, we're missionary appointees with SEND International, heading off to Japan in 2011, Lord willing. We met in Japan while David was on a short term missions trip. As a result of that trip, God began to bring the two of us closer together, and lead us towards missions in Japan. However, it wasn't until almost five years later that we fully realized this.

David's interest in missions was cultivated through participation in short term trips, serving in Brazil, Germany, Papua, Japan and Romania. In 2003 he graduated from The Master's College with a major in MIS and a minor in Bible. Over the next six years he volunteered as the high school youth pastor at his home church, coordinated and led two short term trips to Romania and started a college ministry. During this time he returned to Japan on five more short term trips, where he was overwhelmed with the need for more Christians to serve the Church in Japan in ministry, and felt that God was calling him to help meet that need. In 2007 he joined SEND International and was appointed as a missionary to Japan, with a desire to be involved in planting churches.

Tomo grew up in a pastor's family in Tokyo. While being nurtured in God's Word within the church, she struggled with her faith for fear of being a minority in the overwhelmingly non-Christian environment she experienced outside of home. After many years of resistance, she came to commit her life to the Lord during a SEND-affiliated Bible camp. As she began to be actively involved in ministry at her home church she discovered a growing desire to dedicate her life to serving the Church in Japan, though she wasn't sure exactly how God was going to use her.

Much to our surprise and excitement, just months after God had made it clear that David was to go to Japan as a missionary, He also began to show us how we could partner together to take the Gospel to the Japanese. We began dating in 2007, and were married in 2009, in Tokyo at Tomo's home church, the same church that David had worked in since his first trip to Japan. Tomo was appointed with SEND in 2010, and we hope to be back in Japan as career missionaries in 2011. In order to do so, we must find many people to partner with financially and in prayer, to send us to Japan.
